Our sustainable formula.

The head of Borrenberghs, Tessa Borrenberghs, is an expert when it comes to sustainable fashion. She was intrigued by the subject and decided to study forwards the topic. She studied Sustainability in the Luxury fashion at the University of Arts in Londen and Sustainability business management at the University of Cambridge.

Our sustainable definition

“For me, sustainability sits within the business model” - Tessa Borrenberghs

We are committed to always being responsible, honest and accountable today, with a positive impact on people, the planet and all its creatures so that we can protect it for tomorrow.

We strive to create the most beautiful, desirable products with the least impact on our environment. Our conscious values are also the inspiration behind our innovation. As industry leaders, we endeavour to create the most cutting-edge materials and animal alternatives, continuing to push towards circularity and being fully transparent by developing tools to measure and report our impact.

Design

We obtain for a timeless design, that is constructed well for a higher quality, and that lasts a lifetime and transcends all the trends.

Fair trade

For the moment, everything is produced in the atelier in Belgium. No matter where Borrenberghs will move her production to, she always decides a fair trade model. Every one who works on a Borrenberghs garments should be paid respectfully under safe and good circumstances. As the supply chain is a difficult aspect in the fashion world, we are searching for the moment the certified family owned production companies in Portugal and Italy. To be continued… ( new website end of May)

Producing in Belgium is more expensive, if you are wondering. We prefer to directly be honest with you. We really hope that we can keep our Belgian production. And we will maintain this formula as long as possible.

Materials

All materials at Borrenberghs are sustainable: deadstock and natural fabrics. At Borrenberghs we started with deadstock fabrics in our first collections during the pandemic. There were no other options available as many production halls were shut down. All deadstock fabrics will be used until the last meter. We also use sustainable fabrics with a natural composition. Borrenberghs is working towards a full natural fabric stock. We no longer by deadstock in larger quantities, sometimes only for customised projects. But Borrenberghs will always looks first what she already has in her atelier.

Less stock

For the moment, everything is produced by the designer itself in very small quantities and with a made-to-order system. That means that the designers starts to produce when orders are coming in. This made-to-order system is temporary. Borrenberghs pieces are cherished and have a lot of value and meaning.

We produce limited pieces made of the leftover fabrics in our atelier. Mostly, we can produce just one piece from these leftovers.

Circularity

At Borrenberghs, we are thinking about being circular. Tessa Borrenberghs always keeps in mind while designing that her garments will last a lifetime and hopefully passed on from generation to generation. But she wants to find a way to be more circular if garments are no longer desired. So stay continued… this information will be full on the new website.

We also have a repair system and you can resell your second hand Borrenberghs garments. For more information: info@borrenberghs.com
